The role: We are looking for an enthusiastic person to offer truly outstanding support and make a real difference! As a Support Worker, you will be supporting Eddie, a young man living in the Penzance area, this is a challenging but rewarding role.

Eddie is a very social and friendly guy who has a busy schedule that is packed with things he really enjoys doing. Eddie is very talented and creative and sets very high expectations for himself and what he wants to achieve on a daily basis. Eddie needs support to ensure he is prepared for his chosen activities each day and to be on time for these as Eddie and time do not get on. There aren’t enough hours in the day to fit in everything he has planned, and he needs consistent support to have a realistic daily schedule and not to feel rushed.

It is very important to Eddie that he is supported to make choices and decisions that are important to him (recognising too many choices can cause him to feel anxious and overwhelmed) and that his staff team promote his independence, community inclusion and active citizenship. It is important to Eddie that other people ‘stick to the rules’ and do not make changes to plans they have agreed to. Eddie likes staff who will ‘get stuck in’ and join in on some of his activities, this includes going to the gym, and swimming, taking part in shallal and other social/ creative activities, landscape and portrait painting and going for long walks both locally and further afield.

Eddie would like to find a new member for his team who will have a positive impact on his life by providing him with consistent daily support, understanding the need for routine, structure and predictability to his week and provide emotional support.

Eddie would like someone to help him achieve his aims and ambitions, develop his capabilities and build his independence and confidence. Eddie would like someone to join his team who is committed to supporting someone with autism to lead an ordinary life.

“Hi, I am a young man in my late twenties looking for male support, I love doing anything music and creative art related, and I like to keep fit and active and love to go out for walks with my support. I am hugely sociable and like to meet my friends whenever I can. I am looking for someone on my team who is really good at giving input and coming up with ideas as I always like to keep myself busy, but also someone who can be patient with me and allow me to process things. I like to go with the flow but sometimes need to be prompted to clean and do household chores. I really enjoy having a laugh and watching movies so someone with a good sense of humour is a must. They also need to be willing to be prepared for different occasions and activities.”

For occupational requirement reasons we are looking to appoint a male only for this post (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9)

This role is currently offered on a part-time basis, (47.5 hours) based on a two week rolling rota:

Week 1:
Monday: 9am-10pm
Saturday:11:30am-10pm

Week 2:
Monday 8am-3pm
Friday 1:30pm-10pm
Saturday 10:30am-10pm
