Support Worker Role Location: St Agnes (Cornwall)Salary: £9.50 ph. (+£1.00 night rate enhancement)Hours: Part-time 15 hours per weekWe currently have an opportunity for you to be part of an exciting new supported living service in St Agnes – we are looking for a Support Worker to join our existing team on a part-time basis (15 hours per week).As a support worker, you will be responsible for supporting Ryan, a young man who has autism, is full of fun and vitality and who enjoys nothing more than being out all day everyday – Ryan is very active, he can walk for miles and loves being outdoors come rain or shine. Ryan has a passion for cars and likes to know what everyone drives. Ryan is also a very sociable young man who struggles at times with boundaries and needs consistency and patience to support his understanding that not everyone is his friend – shop staff and transport staff all know Ryan well and will often give a cheerful wave and tell him their names. Ryan really enjoys the opportunity to travel by train or bus to various places each week, he also attends a farm placement with his support staff twice weekly, his team are supporting him to widen his horizons and try new things he is currently aiming to travel to London on the train. Ryan is able to google worldwide destinations and identify how he would travel there. Ryan is also a bit of a whiz on the iPad.Ryan thrives on having structure and routine, knowing what he is doing each day and who he will see is very important, Ryan sees the world around him as unpredictable and sometimes frightening. The team are still learning about the things that cause Ryan to be anxious and are supported by specialists to understand and support any behaviours of concern. Ryan has an infectious personality and is seen to be thriving in his new home and would love the opportunity to have someone new to support him who is enthusiastic and cheerful, who is able to make decisions to keep Ryan occupied and safe, and who is committed to working as part of a small team to make a genuine difference to Ryan.We are looking for people who will bring great energy, creativity and innovative ideas to supporting individuals and getting the most out of this exciting new service located in the village of St Agnes.To join us as a support worker, you’ll need:- A resilient and positive outlook- Strong communication skills- Good organisational and planning skills- The ability to engage, motivate and encourage others- A good sense of humour - Preferably a driving license and access to a vehicle due to the isolated locationYou will have experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism. You will have a positive and upbeat approach to supporting people with autism. You will want to work in a way that is truly person centred - aiming to make a real difference to the individual’s lives by promoting independence and enhancing their perception of quality of life. Applicants with experience of 1-1 support is preferred.We have a vacancy for one support worker to work a set shift pattern which consists of both Day shifts and a Sleep-in on the following rota:Week 1: Wednesdays 8am-11pm with a sleep in from 11pm-8am.Week 2: Saturdays 8am-11pm with a sleep in from 11pm-8am.There is the option to work cover hours also for annual leave and other absences.
