Our client an Outstanding Children’s Services Authority is looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who is looking to make a positive change in the lives of disabled children in the St. Austell Area. You should be child centred, able to use your own initiative, and work as part of a team. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and partnership working when working with parents and other professionals.

You will be required to have an enhanced DBS check in date for children.

Key Notes:

  • Full time & part time hours available. Shifts to choose from; days, nights & weekends.
  • Temporary on going for minimum of a year.
  • Working within a max 5 bed children’s home, with a varying need of complex disabilities and complex behaviours.
  • Age varies from 6 years – 18 years.
  • Candidate needs to be strong, robust, confident working on a 1:1 basis.
  • Variety of shift patterns: 7am – 11pm, 2:30pm – 9:00pm, 7:30am – 3pm, 3:00pm – 9:30pm.

Rate of pay:

  • £12.50 an hour weekday day.
  • £13.50 an hour for weekend day. 
  • £14.00 an hour weekday night.
  • £15.25 an hour weekend night.

Main purpose of the job:

  • To be part of a skilled team to ensure the best outcomes, for disabled children and young people.
  • You will encourage the children to have fun, to learn, grow and develop in a safe way. 

Responsibilities:

  • To take an active role in the day-to-day care, support and supervision of the children and young people accessing the homes, ensuring that their needs are met as defined within their agreed Care planning documents.
  • To plan, organise and participate in a range of activities which support children to enjoy and achieve, which may also include holiday breaks.
  • To undertake generic household duties, including daily cleaning tasks, laundry management and the preparation and cooking of healthy and balanced meals as required.
  • To be responsible for secure storage and administering of medication in line with the medication policy.
  • To assist in ensuring the physical standards of the home provide a safe and child centred environment.
  • To treat children with care, respect and dignity at all times and act as a positive role model.
  • To recognise and respect each child’s social, educational, health, cultural, spiritual and emotional needs and provide appropriate support to meet these individual needs.
  • You will work shifts which will potentially include a range of early, late, split, weekend and sleep-in shifts as dictated by the needs of the children accommodated in the home.

You should have or are willing to work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Residential Care (which the Council will fund).
