‘My name is Michael, I am currently in hospital in Taunton, I am moving back to Cornwall to be with my family in the local area. I have bought my own home in the Illogan area and I am looking for a team that can support me for when I move. As with every house purchase this may take some time to ensure it can meet my needs but I am hoping to be living in my new home by June 2021, so would like to start thinking about what I would like from a support team. Havencare are going to support me to interview a team based on information of what I would like to from a support team. I would like my team to start building a relationship with me a couple of weeks before I move. I have many professionals and a very supportive family around me that will help with all the training you will need to have the right knowledge to support me.
I am looking for support staff who like to be active, enjoy sports and can drive.
I would like staff that are experienced, consistent and resilient- I am a very lovely person to be around and I guarantee I will put a smile on your face, however sometimes when I become anxious I can behave in a way that pushes people away- but with great support from you I will be back to putting that smile on your face .’
Here are some words from Michael’s family
Mum and Dad – “Michael is a lovely man, but he needs somebody who is confident working with people who can escalate and get anxious. When people are nice to him and treat him with care this is when you will get the best out of Michael and he will build a great bond with you! Michael loves his sport and loves a takeaway, especially noodles! He is friendly and sociable and loves to meet new people and chat to people out in the community. He would love to go fishing and play darts and golf. He likes to be treated like one of his team and feel like he is being worked WITH and not just looked after. “
Brother – “He needs staff with a good sense of humour, Michael loves comedy, dumb and dumber is one of his favourite films and will have him rolling around laughing! He needs to feel that he can trust and feel secure with his staff and they will keep him safe if he gets anxious. He needs to feel appreciated and valued by his team. He needs people to show an active interest in what he likes and enjoys like video games, films, golf, snooker, get involved explore it with him.
A lack of stimulation or over stimulation can escalate Michael. People with a calm but confident and assertive approach will work well with him”
